Description:  It is a handsome tree of the evergreen and semi-evergreen forests reaching up to about 40 m in height and up to about 1.5 m in diameter. It is also a dominant tree in the secondary forests of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Flowers are creamy-yellow, sweet-scented, many and small, borne in racemose panicles. Fruit of kiralbogi is nut-like, globose-ovoid with two straw-colored lobes like wings. Timber is dull grayish-brown or reddish brown, sometimes showing a yellowish tinge. It is a moderately heavy, fine and even-textured, strong, tough, durable, very hard utility wood. It is not prone to white ant attacks. The wood is used for various purposes such as construction, piles, boat building, etc. It is a very popular timber in the coastal region. Bark is used in tanning high quality leather.
